Malaria Mosquito is active in Early Evening & Mornings...Dengue is a DayTime Mosquito often found around houses...I've been bitten many times in the Tropics with no ill effects...Not All Mosquito bites are Dangerous...and cause for panic..
So stay covered all the time...No shorts...A Scarf may keep back of neck covered ...
And use a spray...AirConditioned rooms are safer than Fan Only Rooms...Check the screens for holes...Mosquito coils at night may help...and a Bed Mosquito net could be used in some places...perhaps take one along...A Sarong makes a good light cover at night in hot weather...
Light Colors are said to be best...perhaps that's why Khaki is popular for tropical clothes...
As practical matter often you just don't see mosquitoes around if its dry & population is dense they just aren't that common...Some large cities have Mosquito abatement projects which is the ultimate way to get rid of these diseases...
Having an evening beer on a roof top restaurant could a problem at night so plan for it...Most businesses have large bug zappers but these are not reliable...Like with most travel some Luck helps & 100% safety is impossible or a pain...
