Some interesting stories here... Obviously exertion at 11,000 feet in Cusco is an issue... Many people find Macchu Picchu easier than Cusco because its 2000 feet lower... But you have to go over a 14,000 foot pass to get there...
Apparently you drink water...take Coca Tea....and avoid exertion on the first day...
Another stat.... The base altitude at Brighton and Alta ski resorts in Utah are 8500 feet...about the same as Macchu Picchu...and the top elevation of these resorts is about 10,800 feet...exactly the same as Cusco...
So being in Cusco is roughly the same as being at the top of Brighton or Alta ski resorts...
Want more stats...? This link shows the elevation...at base and at top...of all Colorado ski areas... FYI.... All are roughly the same as the difference between Cusco and Macchu Picchu...
So...net-net if you did the ski areas in Colorado and Utah...you should have no problems with Peru...
