If the Penninsula Hotel is too expensive...and if even the Salisbury YMCA is a bit too pricy... Walk down Nathan Street for a couple short blocks to the Mirador and Chungking Mansions... Both on the same side of the street...and about one block apart...
Here find many many "guest houses" with very low rates... They are not the best ...so shop around...but you are only a couple blocks away from the Harbor...and all the sights and sounds of Kowloon... Great view of the Harbor and Hong Kong Island...Star Ferry only steps away (very cheap)...
And the light show starts at 8pm everynight...best viewed from Kowloon walk of stars...
