Travel Photography : Pro and Con...?

Repost from my comments at Lonely Planet :

Memories fade…

A photo is a good way to capture the odd minutia of travel…the transient details that you would forget almost immediately…

I even photograph meals and drinks while on the road… Doing photography well does require you to think about composition, lighting etc… You do tend to see your travels “through the lens”… At times it helps to put the camera down…because ultimately every photograph is really a lie...

A camera captures only an instant in time… But if you really want to preserve the moment do video. Video especially high def…literally puts you back in the moment. The entire event is captured in real time… I even do “video dairies” during a trip…

Raw Video gives you the good, bad and ugly of travel…before the editing and music is added! LoL…

So I guess I’m a camera person when it comes to travel…
